Making the Most of a Job Fair
A
job fair is an excellent opportunity for you to gain information
about career opportunities and inquire about internship, summer,
co-op or full-time employment openings.
Before the Fair
Learn about the products, services and employment needs of
participating companies by researching employers on the
internet, through employer web site links or in our Career
Resource Center, Room 117. Preview the list of participants and
bulletin for each Job Fair. A Career Counselor can help with any
questions you may have. Call for an appointment at 756-2501.
Prepare Your Resume
Check Career Services’ Quarterly Workshop Schedule and Resume
Guidelines. Schedule an appointment with a Career Counselor or
use our drop-in service, (M-F 1-3pm, Summer M-TH 1-3pm), for
your resume critique.
Practice Your Presentation Skills
-
Introductions - look confident and initiate a handshake with a
smile. Demonstrate a knowledge of the organization.
-
Prepare a one-minute commercial - describe your major, related
coursework, (GPA), career interests, related
activities/experience, and the type of position you are seeking.
Relate your background and future goals to the needs of the
organization.
Prepare Questions to Ask Representatives
-
What are your expectations for new hires? What type of
training is available? What key skills/experiences are
highly desirable?
-
What types of assignments are given to summer hires, interns
or Co-ops? What do you like about the company?
-
How would I find out about entry-level positions in
_______?
